Now that summer seems to finally be here and the mercury is starting to rise, some relief from the heat is on the way this week — and it's free.

In what has become an annual event, 7-Eleven stores across Canada—including those in Surrey and Delta —will be giving away free Slurpees Wednesday (July 11) from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The giveaway is a thank you to customers for 43 years of downing the frosty drinks.

Nationwide, about 500,000 Slurpees will be served up no charge.
