Surrey firefighters loaded up a trailer full of food outside Costco in Newton on Sept. 20 – food that will be distributed to local schools through the Surrey Firefighters School Snack Program.

The program is in its 12th year with the goal of providing snacks to students who come to school with little or no food in their backpacks.

The firefighters will be purchasing more than $100,000 worth of food, collected mostly through Surrey fFirefighters' payroll deduction, and delivering it to  students at 85 local schools.
