B.C. Thanksgiving food drive a huge success
This past Saturday, the B.C. Thanksgiving Food Drive (BCTFD) collected an estimated 352,588 pounds of food for 50 local food banks throughout the province.
“It was great to see how the residents of our communities came forward to support our project,” said Andrew Rolfson, BCTFD executive director. “The success can be credited to communities selflessly working together donating time, talent, and means to meet the needs of others – for this, we are truly thankful.”
In Surrey, the BCTFD event included more than 723 volunteers providing over 1,759 hours of service to the community. They were able to visit some 12,000 homes and collected more than 15,000 pounds of non-perishable food for the Surrey Food Bank.
Impressed by the amount of aid given, Marilyn Herrmann, executive director of the Surrey Food Bank said, “At a time of year when the Surrey Food Bank food supplies were really low, the BCTFD, and all of the wonderful people working with it, have come through for us with thousands of pounds of food which we are incredibly grateful for.”
The local BCTFD event in Surrey was sponsored by four organizations: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and three Sikh gurdwaras.
