Snowy owl spotted in Fleetwood
Snow has come to Fleetwood – at least in the form of an Arctic bird of prey.
Leader reader Martin Miles has shared these photos of a snowy owl perched on the roof of his neighbour's home near 92 Avenue and 160 Street.
The birds have returned to Boundary Bay Regional Park in the Tsawwassen area of Delta for the second winter in a row, but Miles was surprised to see one this far northeast.
"I understand that these birds sometimes visit the Delta/Ladner area, but it was a very welcome site to see one in the 92nd Avenue and 160th Street area," Miles said.
The birds have migrated south in search of food, and are tired from their long journey.
Rescue workers at OWL, the Orphaned Wildlife Rehabilitation Society in Delta, have asked the public to remain a respectful distance away from the wintering birds in Boundary Bay to allow them to get the rest they need.
