Surrey Christmas Bureau short on gifts for girls
It’s crunch time at the Surrey Christmas Bureau (SCB), but it’s not too late to help out a less-fortunate family for Christmas.
The SCB is short on gifts this year due to an increase in the number of families registering for assistance.
In particular there is a shortage for teenagers and girls aged seven to 11.
Hockey sticks, footballs and basketballs are some gift ideas suggested by K.C. Gilroy, co-ordinator of the SCB.
“Young people like experiences as much as stuff,” she said, adding that movie passes and gift cards are always appreciated.
This year there are 1,750 families needing support, up from 1,654 families in 2011.
Donations of gifts are being accepted until Dec. 22 and can be delivered to the Surrey Christmas Bureau, located at 7404 King George Blvd., or dropped off at any Surrey fire hall.
Cash donations can be made online at christmasbureau.com/donate.
More sponsors for the Adopt-A-Family program are also needed to provide food and toys to families. For more information, call 604-581-9623.
