Delta amps up for light event
A night of lights is returning.
The Corporation of Delta and Polygon are gearing up for the second-annual Luminary Festival on Sept. 7 from 6-10 p.m. in Sunstone Park (10400 Delsom Cr.).
This free family event will include live music and entertainment, children’s games, luminary crafts, buskers, displays, and food vendors.
There will be wandering entertainers from 6-9 p.m., a main musical performance from 9-10 p.m. and a light parade with luminaries (lanterns) around the park at 8:30 p.m.
There were an estimated 3,000 visitors last year, more than were expected for an inaugural run of its kind.
“I think this year, it’s going to be packed,” says Teresa Collinet, recreation program coordinator for the Corporation of Delta, who adds she hopes that after last year, more people will understand what a luminary festival is, and what they can bring with them to the park.
To help, there will be a Luminary Making Workshop on Aug. 29 from 4-8 p.m. at the North Delta Recreation Centre, 11415 84 Ave.
This drop-in event is open to the public, with a $3 fee, which includes supplies.
There are also instructions to make your own lantern in a PDF document at http://bit.ly/16qsKVo
There is no on-site parking, however a free shuttle service is available from the North Delta Recreation Centre, beginning at 6 p.m.
