Surrey high school hosts annual Christmas dinner for less fortunate
More than 300 people are invited to Tamanawis Secondary School each year for an evening filled with Christmas joy, and this year is no exception.
On Dec. 3, Tamanawis Secondary will be hosting its 16th annual Christmas Community Dinner for Surrey’s less-fortunate residents.
The Christmas Community Dinner is held every year to provide a memorable experience and as a way for Tamanawis students to give back to the community, said Tristan Dyke, a Leadership 10 student at Tamanawis Secondary.
“Bringing a smile to their faces and knowing that this dinner brightened their day is really important to everyone,” Dyke said.
The event includes a turkey dinner prepared by students in the school’s culinary arts program. Entertainment includes traditional holiday music performed by the Tamanawis choir and jazz band. In addition, the slam poetry club and dance team will be delivering live performances. And Santa will be stopping by to distribute toys and take pictures with the children. The presents will be donated by schools and small businesses through a community-wide toy drive.
To ensure this event is successful, the Leadership 10 team has been requesting sponsorships from various businesses and individuals. If you would like to donate to the cause, contact Tristan Dyke at firstname.lastname@example.org
