Eye on the pie
Cougar Creek Elementary has stepped up to help raise funds for relief efforts in the typhoon-struck Philippines.
The school leadership team challenged students to raise $750. Principal Kali Pinto and a staff member were in the hot seat for a pie in face from one primary student and one intermediate class student if this target was met.
The students reached the goal in just two days, so Pinto went one step further and said he would have his head shaved if the students could raise $1,200.
The clippers came out Dec. 13 after the students collected $1,402.10.
With the addition of $420.85 from a bake sale organized by leadership students, the school handed over a cheque for $1,822.95 to Red Cross volunteer Paul Olson.
Staff and students at various Surrey schools have raised more than $7,000 in recent weeks to help Typhoon Haiyan relief efforts.
The Canadian government has pledged to match donations on relief contributions until Dec. 23.
