An Optimist Club is meeting for the first time in Cloverdale.

The meeting will take place on Aug. 20 from 6-7:15 p.m. at the Cloverdale Curling Club, 6150 176 St.

As part of an international organization, Optimist Clubs offer locally based community service, with an emphasis on organizing and supporting youth projects.

Applicants must be over 18 and may undergo a police background check.

The first local event is sponsored by the Evening Optimist Club of Coquitlam and the Optimist Junior International Curling Club (Surrey).
