Surrey theatre companies up for awards
Surrey-based theatre companies have been nominated in an array of categories for this year’s Community Theatre Coalition Awards.
Fraser Valley Gilbert & Sullivan Society’s (FVGSS) original pantomime production of Phantom of the Panto is up for a dozen awards, including best musical production (Reginald Pillay), best director (Mike Balser), best leading actor in a musical (Tom Cleeveley), best leading actress in a musical (separate nominations for Chelsea Rose Tucker and Joni Hayden-Summerton), best supporting role (James Walker), best lighting (Balser), best costume design (Sheena Johnson and Christy Zaporozan), best music director and sound design (Tim Tucker), best graphic design - poster and programme (Paddy Tennant) and best choreographer (Carol Seitz).
Surrey’s Pillay and Dann Wilhelm, well-known for their work with FVGSS, were both nominated in the lead actor category for their co-starring roles in Langley Players’ Jim and Shorty.
Surrey Little Theatre’s production of Home Fires also received numerous nods. The drama is nominated for best production (Ron Savoy), best director, comedy or drama (Brigitte Seib and Paul Cowhig), lead actress (Rina Varley), supporting actress (separate nominations for Laura Luongo, Loryn LeGear, Emily Gingera and Rebecca Strom) as well as lighting design (Tyler Seib), costume design (Bunny Patterson), set decoration (Lana Hart), set design (Brigitte Seib), sound design (Tyler and Brigitte Seib) and programme graphic design (Ron Savoy and Ingo Michael Holst).
