Surrey proclaims Sept. 27-29 Culture Days
Surrey City Council has officially proclaimed Sept. 27-29 as Culture Days.
Culture Days is a national celebration of arts and culture and features more than 7,000 activities in more than 850 Canadian cities and towns.
The celebration offers interactive opportunities through free, hands-on, activities that invite the public to participate behind-the-scenes, to discover the world of artists, creators, historians, architects, curators, designers and other creative people in their communities. Culture Days is meant to raise the awareness, accessibility, participation and engagement of Canadians in the arts and cultural life of their communities.
Upcoming Culture Days activities in Surrey are free and include Cirque Surrey, break dance demonstrations and performances by the Surrey Youth Orchestra.
“Surrey has a vibrant arts and culture community that we want to support and expand,” said Mayor Dianne Watts. “We want to do everything possible to ensure the arts community continues to flourish and grow. Culture Days is a great way to support it.”
“Culture Days is a wonderful way to raise awareness of arts and heritage activities and venues in our city. Council is certainly receptive to the idea of hosting the BC Culture Days launch in Surrey in 2014,” said Coun. Judy Villeneuve.
