By how she approaches her drawings and paintings, Nicola Tibbetts encourages viewers to reconsider the items we see and interact with every day.

On Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m. as part of the Thursday Artist Talk speaker series at the Surrey Art Gallery, the Vancouver-based artist will give an illustrated presentation as she shares the ideas behind each series of her artworks. Tibbetts often skews or changes the environment and space of a painting, which adds a peculiar quality to the work. She also plays with the intricacies and subtleties of food, using narrative to make sense of bizarre situations and strange vantage points.

Tibbetts has a BFA from Concordia University and an MFA from NSCAD University. Since graduating in 2010 she has exhibited throughout Canada and Australia. (You can view her work at www.nicolatibbetts.com

Admission to her Surrey presentation is free and there will be time for questions and conversation during and following the talk. The event ends at 9 p.m.

Surrey Art Gallery is located at 13750 88 Ave. For more information, check surrey.ca/artgallery or call 604-501-5566.
