TED TALKS: Map of live sites where you can watch for free

View TED Talks Free Live Sites in a full screen map

If you weren't among the elite who paid $7,500 to attend the TED 2014 conference in Vancouver this week but still want to tap the brain buzz that surrounds the so-called intellectual Olympics, you're in luck.

For the first time, TED is allowing numerous sites across Metro Vancouver to live stream the TED talks for free.

See our map above for the TED watching sites nearest you, which include many university and college campuses, as well as some public libraries and community centres.

The luminaries speaking include philanthropists Bill and Melinda Gates, astronaut Chris Hadfield, Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales and anthropologist Wade Davis.

They represent fields from astrophysics to robotics and include writers, futurists and activists, such as singer Sting and U.S. politician turned gun law advocate Gabrielle Giffords, who survived being shot in the head.

The full schedule of TED Vancouver speakers and times is at: http://conferences.ted.com/TED2014/program/schedule.php

It's the first time that TED, which stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design, has opted to move its main conference outside of California.

"We've had five wonderful years in Long Beach, but for the anniversary conference, we want to try a new space," the conference's website reads. "And we found it in Vancouver, a city that's itself an inspiration – cosmopolitan, energetic, innovative, yet with unrivaled natural beauty, surrounded by mountains and water."

Vancouver will play host to TED for at least two years.
