Alexa's Bus campaign launches
The fundraising campaign has kicked off for five buses that will provides mobile impaired driving testing.
The Alexa’s Bus program is named after four-year-old Alexa Middelaer, who was killed by an impaired driver in 2008.
The buses will be used as an educational tool as well as for mobile impaired driving testing.
Each bus will cost $250,000, and the fundraising campaign has brought in more than $67,000 so far.
Some of the donors include Village Montessori School, which raised $2,153 through lemonade sales, Southridge Junior Teachers ($1,273), Nina Verdi ($4,000), ScotiaBank ($3,000), Surrey Eagles ($3,800), Purple Power Girls ($3,000), Spirit Bracelet Girls ($1,300), and several others.
“We need to give police the best tools available so they can collect the best evidence and ensure drunk drivers are caught and convicted,” says Mayor Dianne Watts who donated $10,000 from the 2010 Mayor’s Charity Ball to go toward the Back the Bus Campaign.
