Updated: Crash on Langley Bypass claims life

The driver of a pickup truck involved in a collision with a panel van on Friday died of his injuries Sunday morning in hospital, police said.

Langley resident Harold Hamon, the owner of Hamon's towing, was 57.

The crash happened around 9 a.m. on the Langley Bypass east of the 200 Street intersection.

RCMP said the collision occurred when the van attempted to make an illegal left hand turn to head east on the Bypass and collided with the eastbound pickup truck.

Eyewitness Tressa Japp saw the blue Ford F350 pickup truck spin out of control and land in a ditch.

"The smoke started billowing out of the front of the [Ford] truck," said Japp, a First Aid instructor from Boston Bar who rushed to assist the injured occupants of the pickup.

"The driver was more lucid than the passenger," Japp told The Times.

"The passenger was in and out of consciousness. They both had serious head trauma."

Both men were both rushed to hospital by ambulance for treatment of their injuries.

The driver of the van did not appear to be seriously injured.

Both vehicles have been seized and will undergo mechanical inspections.

Langley RCMP said charges are being contemplated.
