Six fires in Surrey over the weekend
Twenty five people are displaced after six separate fires on the weekend.
Surrey Fire attended a fire Saturday at about 6 p.m. that is believed to have started in the kitchen of a basement suite in the 8800-block of 140 Street. While the home suffered extensive damage, no one was hurt.
Then at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday, a fire broke out in a shed attached to a mobile home in the 8200-block King George Boulevard. Both the shed and mobile home suffered damage, but no one was hurt.
On Sunday at 3:15 a.m., two people suffered injuries in a home in the 6600-block of 127 A Street. The suite was destroyed.
Then at 4:30 a.m. Sunday, two homes caught fire and four families – with a total of 25 people – were displaced. The fire is believed to have started in the rear of a house in the 8400-block of 155A Street and extended to a home next door.
Parnveer Randhawa told CBC News he was sleeping when the fire started.
"I look out my window. I thought it was like a solar eclipse or something, and then I saw all these flames going off. And after that, I started yelling ... I'm just going through the hallways, waking everyone up, [and] rushed outside."
Crews estimate there is close to $1 million damage to the two homes. The cause of the fire is not known.
On Sunday at about 1 p.m., a pair of men had painted the inside of a semi truck, and used a propane heater to keep the paint from freezing. The heater ignited what is believed to have been a propane leak, causing a huge explosion. One of the men who was inside the vehicle suffered first and second degree burns, and may have suffered injuries from the blast. There's no word on injuries the other man's injuries.
Things didn't slow down on Monday, as firefighters attended two more fires.
The first was a suspected marijuana grow operation in the 6900-block of 152 Street. No one was hurt. The other fire took place in a vacant home in the 3200-block 192 Street.
All the fires are still under investigation.
