15-year-old Surrey boy stabbed father in the stomach

A man, who was stabbed by his son, is facing charges of assault,.

At about 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, a 50-year-old man in the 9800 block 140 Street is believed to have attacked his 15-year-old son, pinning him down and allegedly choking him.

Police say the boy felt his life was in jeopardy, and reached for a pocket knife, unfolded it and stabbed his father in the stomach.

The father was taken to the hospital for non-life threatening treatment.

"He is expected to make a full recovery," said Surrey RCMP Sgt. Drew Grainger. "The father will be facing charges of assault on the son."

Police believe the father may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time.

The man's 14-year-old daughter was in the apartment at the time and witnessed the events unfold.
