Home invader stabbed himself: New West police

A break and enter suspect stabbed himself in the arm during a home invasion early Saturday morning, according to New Westminster police.

At about 2 a.m., a report of a stabbing in the 700 block of Fourth Avenue was received by police. They found a man with serious cuts to one of his arms and he was taken to hospital.

The department's major crime unit determined the injuries were self-inflicted during a break and enter at an occupied residence. The break-in victims, who are believed to be known to the suspect, suffered serious but non-life threatening injuries.

Police said Alex Roberts, 23, of Surrey has been charged with aggravated assault, assault, break and enter, and mischief.
