Surrey man admits killing wife in 2010
A Surrey man has admitted he killed his wife two years ago.
Wearing a white headscarf and orange prison-issue jumpsuit, a bearded Kamaljit Singh Dhanoa, 35, pleaded guilty to manslaughter in New Westminster Supreme Court on Monday morning (April 16) in connection with the death of his 32-year-old spouse Tejinder Kaur Dhanoa in January 2010.
Tejinder was initially reported missing by her family on Jan. 5 of that year. But police discovered Tejinder's body at the family home near 130 Street and English Place in the Newton area the next day and her husband was arrested.
At the time, police called it a domestic dispute that had turned violent.
Kamaljit was initially charged with second-degree murder, but pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of manslaughter, which carries a minimum prison sentence of four years.
Monday was to be the first day of his trial. His sentencing is now scheduled for July 20.
