Delta raises fire danger rating
The recent stretch of warm, dry summer weather Metro Vancouver residents have been yearning for has a downside—it increases the fire hazard.
And in response, Delta announced Thursday (July 12) it has raised its fire danger rating from low to moderate.
That means there is a ban on open air burning and smoking in Delta parks.
It includes a ban on campfires and open cooking (briquette & propane BBQs) in all Delta Parks until further notice with the exception of Metro Vancouver controlled fire pits on Deas Island Park and Boundary Bay.
Delta staff will continue to patrol parks and beaches to ensure there are no unauthorized activities taking place.
The public is urged to exercise caution and remain on designated park trails to reduce the risk of accidental fires.
Fires can be reported directly to 911, and any unauthorized activity that poses a risk of fire to the Delta Police Department’s 24/7 non-emergency line at (604) 946-4411.
