A 50-year-old Surrey man is fortunate for the sharp eyes of an RCMP officer, who spotted his overturned vehicle in a ditch this week.

The man was on his way home on 40 Avenue near King George Boulevard at about 3 a.m. Monday, when he veered from the road and rolled into a ditch.

He was stuck in the car for two hours until the officer passed by and noticed a the car in the ditch.

"He (the officer) hears somebody in the car, yelling for help, and sure enough, he finds this 50 year old man has been in there for about two hours," said RCMP Sgt. Drew Grainger.

The police officer, along with emergency health services removed the man from the car, and transported him to hospital by air ambulance.

The man sustained a broken hand, as well has some bruising to his face and shoulder.

Police say alcohol or drugs were not contributing factors in the crash.

No one else was hurt.

Police are proud of the job done by the member that night.

"It was good work, he took that extra second to have a look at something that didn't look quite right," Grainger said.
