Cop hurt

A middle-aged White Rock man is facing harassment-related charges after a Mountie was allegedly badgered while injured, and then followed to hospital.

Sgt. Warren Tomalty said the female corporal slipped on wet cobblestone and broke her ankle while dealing with a complaint Feb. 27.

Tomalty wouldn’t release the officer’s name or disclose details of the complaint.

However, he said the complainant’s repeated attempts to get information from the injured officer – even after he was warned to back off – resulted in the man’s arrest.

“He wasn’t worried about the member. All he was worried about was how the investigation was going,” Tomalty said. “It was just ridiculous, to the point we had to arrest him.”

The officer’s ankle will require surgery, Tomalty said. He expects she’ll be off-duty “well into the summer.”
