A man has been killed in what's believed to be a gang-related shooting in North Surrey.

Police say Christopher Pammenter, 46, was in his vehicle in the driveway of his 15800-block 110 Avenue in Fraser Heights.

At about 11:45 p.m. Thursday several shots rang out in the area.

When police arrived, they found Pammenter suffering from gunshot wounds.

Attempts by the B.C. Ambulance Service to revive him were unsuccessful.

The former boxer (shown left in a 1997 picture) was known by friends to be a good-humoured guy who was very outgoing.

Police say Pammenter is known to them, however, a court search shows his offenses are mostly traffic. He was charged with assault in 2001, but was acquitted.

Investigators say the shooting was targeted and likely gang-related.

Witnesses told CTV News they heard they heard numerous shots between a person in the driveway and a white sedan, which sped away.

“There was actually somebody standing at the end of the driveway, towards the end of the driveway shooting back and forth exchanging gunfire,” one witness told CTV.

Police are expected to be on scene throughout Friday gathering evidence and canvassing the neighbourhood.
