RCMP hunting for handyman bank robber

Robberysuspect.jpg

The stocky man in white overalls and Home Depot hat strolled into a Newton bank this month and told the teller he had a weapon.

While that weapon wasn't produced, the broad-shouldered man in his 30s demanded money and left with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Police have released pictures of the man with a beard and wearing sunglasses who seemed to be casually walking into the Scotia Bank at 15290 56 Ave. on Oct. 2 at about 10:15 a.m.

Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crime, or someone who can identify the suspect to call the Surrey RCMP Robbery Section at 604-599-0502 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

Police are also sending out a reminder to businesses about how to stay safe when being robbed.

During a robbery:

· Try to remain calm.

· Don’t make sudden moves.

· Never argue - cooperate and comply with the robber’s demands.

· Never assume a robber isn’t armed.

· Try to pay close attention to what the robber looks like. Don’t stare, just observe.

· Only activate a panic alarm if it is safe to do so.

· Don’t be a hero.
