Kwantlen gets university status

Kwantlen can officially drop the “college.”

The post-secondary institution, with campuses in Surrey, Langley and Richmond, will become a university and be called Kwantlen Polytechnic University.

Kwantlen has been pushing for the past several years to eliminate the “college” from its name to not only ease confusion about the Kwantlen University College tag, but to attract research grants and faculty and allow degrees to be more easily recognized by other institutions.

Amendments to B.C.’s University Act will be required.
