Impaired driver charged
A White Rock RCMP officer was nearly hit by an erratic Surrey driver who later rear-ended a patrol car.
The April 19 incident began around 1 a.m. in the 15800-block of Marine Drive, when a man driving a Pontiac Bonneville veered dangerously close to an officer conducting a roadside check.
The Bonneville was pursued as it headed east along 8 Avenue and onto Highway 99, where the driver lost control, hitting a Mercedes SUV. Three people in the Mercedes were treated in hospital as a result. The impaired driver managed to regain control for a short time, but then veered off the highway into the parked car of another constable who was setting up a spike belt in an attempt to stop him. The Bonneville came to rest near the 32 Avenue off-ramp. A 51-year-old Surrey man, whose name has not been released, is facing five charges.
