Pitbull attacks three in Surrey basement suite

Three people are nursing injuries after a pitbull turned on them on the weekend.

The attack happened in the basement suite of a Surrey home at 124 Street and 74A Avenue on Saturday.

Cory Biigelow was visiting some friends and petting Rance, their pitbull.

Rance turned on Bigelow and bit him.

His shouts prompted neighbours to call 9-1-1.

Neighbour Ron Edmonds said he rushed from his suite to help.

“I grabbed the choke collar and it broke,” Edmonds told CTV News, adding he knew if he managed to detach the dog, it would likely attack him.

And it did.

Hearing somewhere this was the way to fend off an aggressive dog, Edmonds jammed his fist into the dog's mouth and pushed down.

It caused Rance to choke and eventually let go.

He then put his arm around Rance's neck until the dog passed out.

Edmunds put the dog in the bedroom until help arrived.

Some bones in Benedict’s hands are broken, and he is due to have surgery soon.

A woman who lived in the suite was also bitten but not seriously injured.

The RCMP took custody of the dog, and handed it over to the SPCA.

Reports say the dog will likely be put down.
