A charge of sexual interference against a former martial arts instructor have been dropped.

Police arrested Daniel Ivan Ugarte last May and charged him with sexual interference with a person under the age of 16.

The incidents were alleged to have taken place between early 2012 and May 2013.

This month, the charges against Ugarte were stayed.

Crown prosecutor Jodie Harris said the charge didn't meet the standard for charge approval.

She was unable to say whether the case would be before her again.
