Suspicious fire in Newton

Fire investigators believe a blaze that tore through a Newton home on the weekend may have started near an electrical meter inside the garage.

However, it is still being classified as suspicious.

On Sunday at about 6 a.m., crews attended a fire in the 6700-block of 137 Street.

The home was fully engulfed when firefighters arrived.

The residence was vacant, so no one was hurt.

Investigators are treating the fire as suspicious because no one was home when it started.

An adjoining home sustained some roof damage and the family living there has been relocated safely.

The investigation continues.
