LETTER:Overblown warnings

Re: Dreaming of a brown Christmas (B.C. Views, Nov. 21).

I think Tom Fletcher is unduly pessimistic. The world is not going to warm up endlessly, and besides, warming is not all bad. After all, if people from here go to Hawaii in the winter, and people from the Prairies come here, they must want a warmer, more benign world.

Ice may be melting in the Arctic, but that is not the whole world. Nothing much is happening in the tropics and the Antarctic is getting colder and its sea ice is increasing. Global warming is not a simple concept.

If you want to get the world’s temperature, don’t use a polar bear, use a thermometer. The web site, www.friendsofscience.org, using the latest satellite technology, shows how the global temperature has declined since 2001 at a rate of 1.1 degree C per decade. Has global warming stopped?
