Health care hurt by parking fees
An open letter to Mayor Dianne Watts and council:
My wife and I live in Surrey on limited pensions, as is the case with many people in “your” (and our) city.
On our occasional visit to Surrey Memorial Hospital and the Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre, either for appointments, day surgery or visiting friends, we have to contend with outrageous parking fees.
Payments have to be made prior to entering the buildings. Are we going to hope we will be there for one, two or three hours? Will we take a chance on one hour for $4.50 and hope that our appointments will be on time and we won’t receive a fine?
At least at some other medical buildings, if a patient is delayed because of a doctor’s schedule, their office will take the ticket and take care of it.
Surrey is a city of cash grabs more and more, it seems.
I realize that Fraser Health initiated the paid parking, but is seems you went along with it.
Please take note that Delta Hospital in Ladner has lots of parking and it’s free, and it’s thanks to the Corporation of Delta who listened to its residents.
We the residents should stand up for ourselves and write or email our councillors to let them know how we feel. We voted them in and they should listen.
