City bullied by illegal suite owners

It seems to me that the City of Surrey should pay heed to the recent campaign on bullying.

The municipal government has fallen prey to the blatant disregard by a certain group of people that have chosen to mislead those with the power to grant building and development permits.

They erect these huge out-of-character homes that in no way suit the area they are being built in.

They tell the council they are building single family homes when they know full well they have no intention of abiding by that inference.

Once built and inspection finalized, the sectioning takes place and a minimum of one unauthorized suite to as many as five are built and rented.

When we purchased our home over 30 years ago it was made very clear, no suites allowed. In fact, the municipality actually had inspectors going door to door to ensure there was no breach of this bylaw.

Now however, when I get one of these monster hotels built next door to my little home and phone to report they have an unauthorized suite and they are parking illegally, I am told that the problem with unauthorized suites is out of control and the bylaws officers won’t respond to complaints unless there is more than one suite in the residence.

It seems to me the municipality owes me some money as I would have loved to build a suite in my basement and have someone else pay off my mortgage.

What the city is allowing is the festering of a very real threat to all that live in this city by adding to the hatred that is growing here silently, but very surely.
