Covert racism in Quebec
It is very disappointing that the Quebec government is creating an unnecessary storm of controversy.
We are living in the 21st century. Canadian society is a mosaic of different cultures, religions and languages from various parts of the world, including aboriginals. This is one of the salient features of Canada.
On the pretext of secularism, how can one justify that certain religious attire is forbidden on certain jobs? That particular attire is part and parcel of their identity as a whole. For example, a turban for Sikhs, kipa for Jews, and hijab for Muslims.
Hesitantly, I am afraid to say this Quebec Charter of Values smells of covert racism and hypocrisy of the Quebec government. Simultaneously, it appears to be the case that the separatist forces in Quebec ran out of ammunition to further their cause of separatism. So they have resorted to such narrow-minded anti-immigrant dirty tricks, which in the long run may cause a serious split among Canadians. I think that is exactly what is behind this secret hidden agenda.
