On a mission to help others
At long last, the Surrey Urban Mission’s new home is ready.
Ours was a story of trial and perseverance, but the doors opened for service in mid-June.
It has truly been a work in progress as many parts of the renovation still needed completion.
A great deal of gratitude is due to all of the individuals and businesses who contributed in such meaningful ways to ensure that the Surrey Urban Mission’s new home is a wonderful space for people to spend time in.
Special thanks are due to the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada, B.C. Synod and Christ the King Lutheran Church, whose gift of $1 million ensured our ministry long into the future.
The purchase of the building that we now reside in would not have been possible without this amazing contribution.
More than 40,000 wonderful home-cooked meals were served to people living in poverty in Surrey last year.
Until last week we had no kitchen and weren’t sure how we would find a way to obtain one.
Due to the incredible generosity of the Bosa family and the Bosa Foundation the mission will again soon be cooking some wonderful meals in a kitchen that exceeds all expectations.
It is a room of great beauty and of possibility.
We look forward to the serving of community meals, to offering community kitchen programs and the training opportunities that we now possess. It is a gift that will last for many years.
Please join us for an evening full of great food, fun and friendship on Friday, Oct. 25 from 5-9 p.m. at the new Surrey Urban Mission, 10776 King George Blvd.
This event is family friendly and there will be a live and silent auction. Donations will be gratefully received towards the cost of the meal.
