Heat fourth in Winnipeg

After winning their first two playoff contests, the Delta Heat have been eliminated from the Under-16 Girls Fastpitch Canadian Championship in Winnipeg.

The Heat were eliminated this morning by the Smitty’s Terminators 6-3, placing fourth in the 14-team tournament.

Delta took a 3-0 lead into the last three innings, only to give up five runs in the fifth and another in the sixth.

Mackenzie Welsh drove in all three Delta runs, hitting a double to score Lexie Brenneis for the game’s first score, then smacking a home run in the fourth with Kennedy Bailey on base.

After going 3-3 (won-lost) in round robin play, then defeating the Quebec Rebelles in a tiebreaker game, Delta defeated Brampton 13-6 to open the playoff Saturday morning.

Siara Couper went four-for-four at the plate for the Heat, a three-run double and a run-scoring single accounting for her four runs batted in (RBIs).

Holly Speers contributed with a three-run homer.

Later in the day, Heat pitcher Marley Parker threw a complete-game two-hitter for her second win of the day, as Delta stopped the Lloydminster Rebels 4-0. Kaitlin Fraser had a pair of doubles which led to two runs scored.
