SOCCER

Perfect Storm

The Sur-Del Storm Select team finished first in the girls under-11 age group at the BMO Mini-Soccer Festival at BC Place.

The Storm went undefeated through the tournament defeating Campbell River (9-1), Nanaimo (5-0), Golden Ears (6-0) and the Whalley Panthers (3-0). Outstanding individual performances came from Jenaya Robertson, Alexa Gramm, Sydney Antonyk and Brooke Schlossarek.

Jaj ties the game

The Guildford Silver Ghosts played to a 1-1 tie with the Ladner Thistles in a girls under-13 Silver B game.

Natasha Baur pounced on a rebound from Robeen Jaj’s for the Ghosts goal, which tied the game near the end of the first half.

The Ghosts were unlucky not to break the deadlock in the second half, as Jacqui Bodwell, Reanu Sekhon, and Sara Rai all created chances to score only to be stopped by the Thistles goalie. Jaj also had a great chance to net the winner, but hit the crossbar with a 25-yard free kick.

Erin Sandhu, Riley Murdoch, and Kim Nguyen also turned in outstanding games.

Thunder get a draw

The SBAA Thunder surrendered an early goal, and were held to a 1-1 tie by the Ladner Strikers in girls under-12 Select play.

Cayman Gill passed to Riley Bowra, who tallied the tying goal.

HOCKEY

Colts can’t hang on

The Cloverdale Colts scored two unanswered first period goals, but dropped a 5-3 decision to the Surrey Flames in a Bantam C contest.

The Colts led 2-0 after Daniel Matilda and Jeevan Samra tallied in the opening frame, both goals assisted by Ryan Funk. Tanbir Rana and Brendan Koselowski collected one assist each in the first period.

After the Flames tied the game after two periods, Kyle Sidwell restored the Colts lead with an unassisted goal early in the third period, only to have the Flames net three goals to close out the scoring.

RINGETTE

Funky Monkeys fall short

The Delta Funky Monkeys lost 9-4 to North West Vancouver in a Petite B game.

Sara Glennon and Sydney Allen each scored once and assisted on another for Delta, with Alycia Pankiw and Mackenzie Armstrong also scoring. Kylee McPhedrain collected a pair of assists, while Maile McMillan and Laura Pankiw played well as callups from the Novice division.

Bakke bags six

Six goals from Ingrid Bakke paced the Delta Maniacs to a 12-3 win over Surrey/White Rock in Petite A play.

Simran Grewal with two, Leanne Mar, Sydney Dunstan, Kyra Savard and Lisa Salt also scored for the Maniacs.

Grewal, Chelsea Ezzy, Adean Kaila and Jaidyn Mawhinney had outstanding defensive games.
