Two wins over a pair of teams from Regina has kept the Surrey Storm atop the standings during the round robin portion of the Under-18 Women's Fastpitch Canadian Championship in Montreal.

The Storm defeated the Regina Riot 17-1 in three innings Tuesday morning in the most one-sided game of the 17-team tournament, then needed just five innings to hand the Regina Kaos their first loss with a 10-2 decision.

Now at 6-0 (won-lost), the Storm have clinched top eight finish and a playoff berth. The top eight teams after eight round robin games advance to a modified double-knockout playoff over the weekend.

Alisha Welch drove in three runs on a single, a double, a triple, also scoring three runs herself, to lead the Storm past the Riot. Shae-Lyn Ogilvie also had three RBIs, while Lindsey Ogilvie got the win after retiring all six batters she faced over the first two innings.

The Storm scored a dozen runs in the bottom of the third inning to bring the game to an early end.

The Kaos led the Storm 2-0 after one inning on Tuesday night, then Surrey scored three in the second on three Kaos errors to take the lead for good.

Welch had the big hit in a six-run fifth inning, hitting a bases-loaded triple for three of her four RBIs in the game. Lindsey and Shae-Lyn Ogilvie each had three hits.

Surrey will play the Calgary Kaizen later tonight (Wednesday) before closing out the round robin against the 7-0 Guelph Gators tomorrow afternoon.
