The Surrey Eagles have dealt one of its top forwards back east, in exchange for a defenceman.

On Thursday, the BC Hockey League club announced it had sent Sean McGovern, 18, and future considerations to the North York Rangers of the Ontario Provincial Jr. A Hockey League in a swap for 18-year-old Brett Seldon.

McGovern, an Ontario native, had 39 points in 59 games with Surrey last season, his first in the BCHL.

Seldon, a six-foot-two, 200-pound blue-liner from Thornhill, Ont., tallied one goal and 11 points in 43 games last season in the OPJHL.

“We’re excited to add Brett to the roster,” said Eagles head coach and general manager Matt Erhart.

“He’ll provide some more veteran leadership and size to our back end, and we’re thrilled to have him for the upcoming season.”

The Eagles opened training camp Monday, and wrap up Wednesday evening. The team's first exhibition game is Friday, Aug. 25 at South Surrey Arena, against the Langley Rivermen.
