Shaking off a heart-breaking loss in the championship round last night, the Enver Creek Cougars collected their second win in three games at the B.C. Boys Senior AAA High School Basketball Tournament at the Langley Events Centre this afternoon (Thursday).

The Cougars were in control from the start, and handed the Handsworth Royals a 73-54 setback in consolation play, living up to their pre-tournament goal of giving their best effort in every game.

"We just keep playing basketball, and see what happens," said head coach Phil Deeks before the 20-team tournament began Tuesday. "Whoever we match up with, we want to enjoy it, but make sure we're there to play.

"We're not be content with just being there."

The Cougars were eliminated from championship contention with a 69-66 overtime loss to the White Rock Christian Academy Royals, but with a sixth place finish still possible, Enver Creek rebounded with a strong performance against their opponents from North Vancouver.

They led 20-15 after one quarter, and 38-32 at half time. They stretched the margin to 15 points at three-quarter time.

Gurkirat Kular with 21 points, Nicholas Jhauj with 19 and Rajan Gill with 10 were the offensive leaders for the Cougars, who will play the Terry Fox Ravens tomorrow (Friday) at 2:30 p.m.
