Crusaders host Pepsi Bowl
Classes start Tuesday, but the high school football season will get underway four days earlier.
Two of four local teams will play their exhibition games tomorrow (Friday), including the Holy Cross Crusaders hosting the Senior AAA St. Thomas More Knights in the Pepsi Bowl. The annual clash between to two Catholic schools is an annual event, and was won by the host Knights 43-0 last season.
The Crusaders will be in the Southern Conference of Senior AA division of the B.C. High School Football Association, along with the Seaquam Seahawks and Frank Hurt Hornets.
The Seahawks placed third in last year’s conference standings at 3-2 (won-lost), one game ahead of the Crusaders.
Seaquam will begin their preseason tomorrow in Kamloops against the Valleyview Vikings, and are excited about their exhibition schedule.
“We will be well prepared for our first varsity game in Kamloops,” said Seahawks publicity coordinator Juliet Napier. “Sept. 21 has been designated as Homecoming when we host Holy Cross in our first league contest. And the varsity team will host an American school from Bellingham for the first time in years.”
The Squalicum Storm of Bellingham will be the visitors at Seaquam on Sept. 28.
Joining the Southern Conference after several seasons in Tier II are the Frank Hurt Hornets. The first of two preseason games on the road is next week, Friday, Sept. 6 in North Vancouver against the Argyle Pipers.
The Lord Tweedsmuir Panthers are the lone Surrey team in the Senior AAA ranks, and will play in the Eastern Conference in 2013. They take to the field for the first time next Friday (Sept. 6) for an exhibition game at home against the John Barsby Bulldogs of Nanaimo.
